The Story
The Outsiders' side won when Hulk Hogan emerged as the mystery third man, betrayed the WCW roster and leg-dropped Randy Savage — birthing the New World Order. We include it for historical weight, not workrate: as a match it is a forgettable roughly 2-star affair, but as a moment it is arguably the single most influential angle of the Monday Night War.
The setup was a six-man tag. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash — "The Outsiders" who had invaded WCW claiming to represent an outside force — promised a third partner they never named, and pulled their side back so it was two-on-three against Sting, Lex Luger and Randy Savage. For most of the night the mystery man was the only story anyone cared about, and speculation ran wild about who would complete the trio.
Then Hulk Hogan marched to the ring. The crowd assumed America's ultimate hero had arrived to save WCW — until he dropped the leg on a prone Savage and stood tall with the invaders. After more than a decade as the industry's smiling standard-bearer, Hogan turned heel, the fans littered the ring with trash, and "Hollywood" Hogan and the nWo were born. The turn sent WCW to 83 straight weeks of ratings victories over Raw and rewrote the creative and economic direction of the entire business.
