Omega took over Bullet Club leadership from AJ Styles in 2016 and, with the Young Bucks, spun The Elite out of it — the t-shirt empire, Being The Elite, and eventually the civil war with Cody Rhodes. The faction politics of 2016-2018 are the direct prehistory of AEW.

The tag team with Kota Ibushi, formed in DDT and portrayed with open romantic overtones — decades ahead of the industry on that front.
