Manager, Membership Growth — playbook

Membership growth strategy

This is Wrestle Lore's one-page plan to turn free readers into paying members, mapped to a WWE-style "Manager, Membership Growth" role. It runs a six-stage funnel — Acquire Engage Capture Convert Retain Measure — across owned channels (email, SMS, web, app, landing pages), driven by lifecycle campaigns and audience segmentation (favorite promotion, engagement, geography including China), continuously improved by structured A/B testing, and governed by a single weekly funnel readout. SEO, GEO and China distribution feed the top of the funnel with free, high-intent traffic.

Owned channels

Email

The workhorse

The weekly "Rewind" newsletter plus all lifecycle journeys. Owned, zero-CAC, and the primary conversion engine from free Insider to paid Ringside.

SMS

Event-surge muscle

Opt-in mobile drops tied to live PLE nights — time-sensitive "watch-along starts now" and last-hour offer nudges where email is too slow.

Web

Top of funnel

The crawlable database itself: wrestlers, matches, rivalries and promotion hubs — every page an entry point and a capture surface.

App / push

Retention loop

Push notifications for rating drops, new deep-dives and event reminders — the highest-frequency touch for retaining engaged members.

Landing pages

Conversion surfaces

Purpose-built LPs per source and segment (a WCW-fan LP, a China LP, a WrestleMania-week LP) — the controlled environment where we A/B test relentlessly.

Social & China

Distribution

Short clips and rating cards on YouTube/X and, for China, Bilibili and Weibo drive discovery back to owned web and capture surfaces.

Lifecycle campaigns

Every captured contact enters a lifecycle. Triggers, timing, channel and the funnel stage each serves.

Segmentation

The signup form already captures favorite promotion and (optionally) SMS — so segmentation starts at capture. Three axes drive who gets what, when.

By favorite promotion

Content fit

A WCW fan gets nWo and Sting content; a NXT fan gets TakeOver deep-dives. Tailored drops lift CTR and make the archive feel personal.

WWEWCWECWTNANXT
By engagement

Behavioral tier

Power users (rate matches, high pages/session) get the paid upsell sooner; passive readers get more first-value nudges before any ask; dormant contacts enter win-back.

By geography

Locale & China

Time-zone-aware send times; localized offers. China members are served the 中文 experience with local payment rails and data localization — a distinct segment, not an afterthought.

A/B testing plan

One test per surface at a time, sized to reach significance, with a single primary metric and a documented hypothesis. Losers are archived; winners become the new control.

The weekly funnel readout

One dashboard, reviewed every week, that walks the funnel top to bottom. Targets are illustrative for this prototype; the discipline — same metrics, every week, with a week-over-week delta and an owner action — is the point.

How SEO, GEO & China feed the top of funnel

SEO

Entity coverage

A crawlable page for every wrestler, match, rivalry and promotion, densely interlinked with clean schema.org markup. High-intent searches — "best TNA match," "why did WCW die" — land on a page built to answer them.

GEO

AI citation

Answer-first summaries, FAQ schema and a transparent ratings methodology make Wrestle Lore quotable by generative-AI assistants — a fast-growing, zero-CAC discovery channel that sends pre-qualified readers.

China

Localized reach

A dedicated 中文 experience plus Bilibili and Weibo distribution open a huge, underserved wrestling audience — served with local payment rails, localization and China-specific send times and offers.

All three are Acquire-stage levers: they lower blended CAC by replacing paid traffic with owned, high-intent discovery. The rest of the funnel — engage, capture, convert, retain — then does the work of turning that traffic into members and the readout keeps every stage honest.
