The Story
The Rock beat Steve Austin after three Rock Bottoms — his first WrestleMania win over Austin, and Austin’s final match. Their third and final WrestleMania meeting — and the only one The Rock won, hitting three Rock Bottoms to beat Austin in what turned out to be Stone Cold’s last match.
After losing to Austin at WrestleMania XV and X-Seven, a now-Hollywood Rock finally got even in their trilogy closer, wrestling the match as an arrogant movie star desperate to beat his old rival on the grandest stage.
It took three Rock Bottoms to keep Austin down. Unknown to most fans at the time, a badly injured Austin had wrestled his last match — giving the bout an unexpected weight as a send-off for one of the industry’s biggest stars.
