The Story
The Rock retained the WWF Title when a pre-recorded tape of Mankind saying ‘I quit’ was played — after a barrage of unprotected chair shots. The brutal ‘I Quit’ match immortalised in Beyond the Mat — eleven unprotected chair shots, and a Rock win sealed by a pre-recorded tape of Mankind saying ‘I quit.’
This is the savage ‘I Quit’ brawl captured forever in the documentary Beyond the Mat: The Rock against a defiant Mankind, with the WWF Title on the line and no submission or pinfall — an opponent had to say the words.
The finish became infamous: Rock delivered a barrage of unprotected chair shots to a handcuffed Mankind, then ‘won’ when a pre-recorded audio clip of Mankind saying ‘I quit’ was played over the speakers. Brutal, controversial and unforgettable.
