The Story
Sami Zayn won the NXT Championship — his first title in WWE — beating champion Adrian Neville in the emotional main event of TakeOver: R Evolution. It was the ultimate underdog payoff of the early TakeOver era, the beloved perennial nearly-man finally winning the big one.
Zayn had built his entire NXT run on falling just short, and the match played on every ounce of that history. Neville, the high-flying champion, matched him move for move and near-fall for near-fall, forcing Zayn to dig deeper than he ever had. When Zayn finally landed the Helluva Kick to claim the belt, the release of years of frustration turned Full Sail into a cauldron of noise.
