Overview

Georgio Poullas came to Real American Freestyle from the internet, not from a national team, and ended up in the promotion's most notorious moment.

He wrestled Division I at Cleveland State and then Rider without a published national placing, coached at his old high school, moved to Los Angeles and built a following on fitness content and a street challenge series offering strangers a thousand dollars to take him down.

RAF signed him and he beat Keelon Jimison by technical fall at RAF 05. Then came Arman Tsarukyan twice: a contested points decision at RAF 06 that ended with Tsarukyan tackling and punching him after the whistle, and a 9-3 rematch loss at RAF 07.

The rematch carried what a Creators Inc. executive called the largest purse ever paid for a competitive wrestling match, close to seven figures for six minutes.

Setting one thing straight

Four different scores have been published for the RAF 06 decision. RAF's own pages say 5-4, most of the press says 5-3, MMA Mania says 6-4 and USA Wrestling says 5-2. Every source agrees Tsarukyan won on points in the third period. This page does not pick one.

Background

He was a 2016 Ohio state champion at 152 pounds, the first Canfield state title in seventeen years, and a state runner up in 2017, finishing 176-15 across his career. He wrestled Division I at Cleveland State from 2017 to 2019 and at Rider in 2019 and 2020. No NCAA placing or All America honour is published for him, and no freestyle national placing either. What he built instead was an audience.

Rivalries

RAF 06 and RAF 07

Arman Tsarukyan

Two matches, one brawl, and a great deal of talking. Poullas called the post-whistle tackle a coward move and said he would be ready if it happened again. It did not; Tsarukyan won the rematch 9-3.

RAF 05, January 10

Keelon Jimison

His only RAF win, a first period technical fall inside a minute and a half.
